Welcome!

i’m abby, and this is my blog – thanks for stopping by! this is where i’ll post favorites from all of my shoots, along with random snippets about my day-to-day life. i’m a wedding and portrait photographer based out of ann arbor, MI. i think i’ve got pretty much the best job in the world. i love weddings. i love photography. i love people in love. works out pretty good! when i’m not shooting, you may find me snuggling with my amazing husband, dreaming about expensive furniture I’d like to buy, or watching bad reality television.

Yes, that's right - today is Tom's birthday! (well, actually, yesterday was his birthday - but I played hookey with him, so, while I wrote this a couple of days ago, I wasn't able to post it until today).

Anyhow, I usually keep this blog strictly business - but I thought this would be an appropriate time to give him some long-overdue recognition.

Tom keeps a pretty low profile around here (it is 'abby rose photo' after all!) - but over the past five years he has become an absolutely integral part of this business. He likes to joke that he's my secret weapon - and ya know what? It's true. Tom second shoots on most of the events I photograph. And he's also an invaluable assistant - hauling my gear, making sure I don't leave that $2,000 lens sitting behind on a park bench, holding a light stand, reflecting light, making me smile, - all these little and not-so-little things that go such a long way in helping me to do what I do. And even on days he's not shooting with me, he's still there behind the scenes - making me breakfast, charging my batteries, packing my gear, and just generally making sure that I get out the door.

And in the midst of all that - he's become a darn good photographer. I finally made myself sit down and pull together a portfolio for him - this is by no means complete, just a selection of image files I have handy that really showcase his unique eye. And this doesn't even include all the engagement sessions, bar/bat mitzvahs and portrait shoots he's done - just some wedding highlights.

Enjoy! (click fullscreen for the best view)

And thank you Tommy for being the very best friend/husband/partner/everything I ever hoped for.

xoxo

What a FUN party this was!  We photographed Tatum's Bat Mitzvah back in March - so excited to share some images.  Tatum is an absolute sweetheart and her family was delightful to work with ;-) Dress rehearsal portraits at Shaarey Zedek
such a cute family!
and the party!  I absolutely LOVE it when my clients have a strong vision for their party, and include photography in the overall plan.  The theme here was "tatum televison" - so creative!  Mom Samantha came up with all these adorable concepts, and we had a blast shooting Tatum in the studio.  Check out some of the final art pieces (a collaboration with Barb Mandel) below (these were printed as HUGE banners throughout the room
the room was designed beautifully - lighting and draping really helped transform the environment
confetti release to kick things off!!
the hora
desserts were absolutely off the hook - pop tarts, cotton candy, s'mores, and so much more!
an all-around fantastic evening - thanks so much for sharing it with us!

Jen and James' gorgeous wedding album arrived not too long ago, and it reminded me that these two never did make it up on the blog, which is just a travesty because their wedding was crazy amazing! bad blogger, abby!!

sooo without further ado, here is a peek at their wedding!

This was a truly cross-cultural affair with both Jen's Korean heritage and James' English background represented. The celebration began with a midweek tea ceremony at Jen's family home.

they were just adorable in their hanboks!
The wedding ceremony was held at Cranbrook House and Gardens - I absolutely LOVE shooting Cranbrook weddings.  The grounds are just amazing for photography.

Jen and James both work in advertising/design, so it was no surprise to see they had created a beautiful crest for their wedding stationary.

loved her classic bouquet of white roses and her sparkly kate spades!
I LOVED these groomsmen's style with the ties and cravats - so dashing!!
ceremony in the Cranbrook library
guests enjoyed tea, scones and passed champagne (among other goodies!) after the ceremony
meanwhile, we made ample use of the Cranbrook gardens...
reception at the Townsend Hotel
and, i'll end it with some bling ;-)
thanks Jen and James!
