melissa + andy | michigan wedding photography

June 18, 2012

so Melissa first contacted me about photographing her wedding about three weeks ago.  long story short, her mom is very sick, and when her and Andy got engaged they figured, why not do this right away, to make sure she is here to celebrate with us.  Yes, that’s right – they threw this entire wedding together in just a few weeks!  And we’re not talking a small elopement either – this was the “real deal” – 200+ people at a country club, a band (and moi!).  I am so impressed with what they were able to do, with the help of an amazing team of friends and family.

In our talks leading up to the wedding, Melissa and Andy made it clear that they were very drawn to a photo-journalistic style of wedding photography.  Now – a lot of couples tell me this – but what most of them *really* mean is that they simply want natural-looking, relaxed portraits.  But these guys were serious – aside from some family portraits following the ceremony, they were looking for un-staged, documentary-style photography, with an emphasis on people and genuine moments.  In fact, I practically had to abduct them to get a few romantic portraits 😉  It was really a treat to work in this style – candid storytelling imagery is what drew me to wedding photography many years ago, and it will always be my first love 😉

This was much quicker than I would typically be able to turn around wedding images – and many more than I would usually show on a blog – but, extraordinary circumstances call for a special, super-sized (and all black-and-white!) post.

Enjoy a peek at Melissa and Andy’s dayMelissa and Andy:  thank you guys for giving us such intimate access and trusting us to tell the story of your day.  I’m so happy I was available on short notice 😉
