tommy and I are headed to Cleveland to spend the holiday with my family. And (gasp!) I don't know that my folks currently have internet (not because they live in the stone age, lol - they're waiting to move into their new home and staying somewhere temporary). Anyhow - this means I might not be as reachable as normal through Friday.
happy thanksgiving! and look for LOTS of fun falltime portraits, and another rockin' bat mitzvah coming to the blog next week ;-)

This was my last wedding of 2009 - and what a great couple to end the year with. Hugh and Minae were married at Forest Park Baptist Church, with a reception following at Glen Oaks.

hugh and his groomsmen are just about the nicest group of guys ever - which is why this 'tough guy' pose cracks me up!
onto the ceremony
Hugh surprised his bride (and everyone else!) by serenading her - so romantic!

such a fun group
platinum mix DJs kept the dancefloor hopping!
Thanks Minae and Hugh! And thanks to ALL of my wonderful 2009 couples - what a year it's been. I will now proceed to lock myself in a room and design albums for the next two months ;-)

What an amazing day this was! Madison was bat mitzvah'd (is that a word?) last weekend at the Ritz, and it was a BLAST. Dee Dee Hoffman planned the event, and she and her team did a fantastic job transforming the ballroom into a chic nightclub environment.
Madison is just a beautiful young lady, inside and out ;-)
tommy snagged this one:
here's the whole fam
I just love this next shot - grandma surrounded by all the grandkids!
a cute moment before the service
Here's the ballroom - so beautiful!
One of the coolest things for me was walking in and seeing my photos larger-than-life - literally! I did a shoot with Madison awhile back and I was super-excited to see how they used the images to decorate.
and a few more of the pretty details
Congratulations Madison! It was such a joy getting to work with you and your family ;-)

I had a great time shooting with Neil and Erin in downtown Detroit last weekend. the weather was unbelievable - and they were up for a little urban exploring, which is always fun ;-)

The second picture in the field, with the flowers and the buildings in the background, is absolute perfection. I can't imagine a better engagement photo!

i've said it before, but one of my absolute favorite things about my job is getting to meet the new babies of couples whose weddings I photographed. I shot greg and kelly's wedding over two years ago, and I am just thrilled for them as they welcome a new baby into their lives!
Meet Cass!

here's some favorites from a recent e-shoot with ryan and megan - they are an adorable couple - plus, megan is a dead ringer for january jones, and I love me some mad men!! so excited to shoot their wedding this may!
we actually did this shoot on a really yucky, rainy day - but they were only in michigan for the weekend so we really didn't want to reschedule. It just goes to show that you can make great images in ANY weather!
I'll start with one of my favorites (and, coincidentally, one of the last images we snapped!). I've always loved this wall - and it is just SICK right now covered in gorgeous fall colors
Enjoy!

these next two are what I jokingly call ''newspaper announcement photos". In wedding photography nowadays, there's so much emphasis on being creative and different...which is fantastic, but I think sometimes we forget to just take nice, 'normal' portraits, too. I truly believe that the ability to compose and capture beautiful, timeless, well-lit portraits is crucial for any photographer. While I typically chose to feature my less traditional imagery, I always try and remember to grab a few like this at every session....
Enjoy!
